Saunders is a generous book signer. Almost every book I’ve seen him sign he includes a little cartoon, sometimes in action, sometimes with a little thought bubble. If you look at his notes or his manuscripts or any notepad around him it’ll be full up with cartoons in the margins. I find this charming. So I decided that anyone who likes Saunders enough to join his Substack would appreciate a deep cut. 

I asked him to draw a few out for me, which he did. I asked him to write “Story Club,” so the text could be in his own handwriting. He sent me a JPG with five different versions. Generous, right?
